More often what we want to learn on a day-to-day basis is a bunch of quick and easy recipes that we can prepare without spending too much time. Add up to that is purchasing expensive ingredients just to prepare a single meal.

We heard about Paleo Diet or Paleo meals. The "Paleo Diet" also referred to as the caveman diet is a way of obtaining nutrition based on the assumed ancient eating plan of wild animals and plants that various human species constantly consumed during the Paleolithic era.

One healthful recipe which you can all prepare in about 20 minutes or less is Pork chops with apples and onions. You will be needing 4 bone-in pork chops, with the trimmings; 3 tbsp lard, butter; ghee or coconut oil; 2 large onions, sliced; 4 sliced and cored apples; Salt and pepper to taste. Heat a large pan over a medium-high heat. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper to taste. Melt 2 tbsp of the cooking fat and fry the chops, about 5 minutes on each side, until well-cooked and browned. Set the pork chops aside, reduce the heat to medium-low, add the other tbsp of cooking fat and add the onion and apple slices. Cook for about 4 minutes, until the onions have caramelized and the apple slices are slightly soft. You can serve the chops with the toppings of apple and onions for a mouth-watering meal.

An additional beneficial Paleo recipe is liver & onions. Prepare 4 large slices pork or beef liver; 5 large onions, sliced; 6 tbsp butter or lard; salt and pepper to taste. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat and add 5 tbsp of the butter and the sliced onions. Cook slowly, stirring often, for about 20 to 25 minutes, until the onions are really soft and caramelized. Near the end of the cooking process of the onions, heat another pan over a medium-high heat and cook the liver with the rest of the cooking fat, about 3 minutes on each side. Serve the liver topped with the delicious and creamy cooked onions. This is also delicious served with a little bit of homemade salsa on the side.

These recipes are all fine and enjoyable, very easy and simple to prepare. You just need to be more cautious on your intake, and the body's necessary requirement.

Gluten Free - Lamb Breakfast

The recipe is for one serving as often only one person in a family eats gluten-free. You may have to alter the amounts to suit your appetite or when serving to more than one person. Make up a large batch, taking advantage of cheap food offers in your supermarket. Divide into one person servings and freeze. Then when you come to use you can take out as many portions as there are people you need to feed.

Ingredients

Grapes, 10 grams

Onions, raw, 100 grams

Pepper, black, half tsp

Paprika, 1 tsp

Butter, salted, 1 pat half oz

Dried mixed fruit, 25 gram

Roast leg lamb, 100 gram

Millet 100 gram

Water 50 ml

Directions

Put the butter, salt, pepper, and paprika into a frying pan and melt over a slow heat

Peel and thinly slice onions

Add onions to pan and sweat (cook slowly) for about 15 mins

Add millet and water

Bring to boil

You can use millet that has been pre-cooked and left over from another meal, in which case omit the water, add the cooked millet and continue without bringing to boil.

Add dried mixed fruit and slowly cook

Cut 2 slices of roast leg of lamb into thin strips and add to pan (note this is cooked meat)

Cook slowly for a further 10 mins

Serve and eat

Follow this with fresh fruit

This is a very forgiving recipe and you can add just about any fruit or veg to it. Experiment, change the type of meat you use, throw in a few dried apricots or cranberries. Other gluten-free grains can be used, try buckwheat or quinoa. Whatever you do all the family will eat this breakfast.

The Paleo Diet has seen quite a jump in popularity over the past decade. Numerous websites are devoted to the topic and scores of books, reports and cookbooks can be easily found. Yet many that choose to try this diet struggle with some common problems-this includes cutting the grains out of your diet. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome this problem and a lot of support to be found in the virtual paleo community.

Grain Restrictions on the Paleo Diet - How to Successfully Cut Out Grains on the Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet excludes a lot of foods that most of us have grown up eating. These include grains, dairy, beans/legumes, potatoes, and refined sugars and oils. Now there are some different schools of practice on how exactly to break down your food intake on the diet (this percentage of protein, this percentage of fat, etc.), but I won't get into that here. One thing is for sure-grains are not paleo.

For most of us, grains have been at the base of our food pyramid for as long as we can remember. They are typically a big part in many of our favorite dishes and recipes and often provide the basis of our snack food items.

There are a couple of ways to help you exclude grains from your diet. First, learn some paleo recipes. Whether you find them on the internet, buy a paleo cookbook, create your own or steal your friends', you need to know some recipes that fit the diet. I would suggest you acquire a variety of recipes too, because another common problem is boredom with the same old dishes.

Being successful in cutting out grains means getting all of them out of your house and wherever else you eat a lot-likely work. If you're used to eating grain based snacks, find some new ones. Fortunately little fresh veggies, fruits and nuts make great snacks (keep a salt free, mixed bag of nuts in your car, your purse and your house). You should also investigate restaurants that have paleo friendly options. And remember, investigate lots of them. If you travel a lot, know your chain restaurants and even fast food joints (although, I usually choose to fast rather than eating fast food).

Another important point in getting rid of those grains and staying on the diet as a whole is preparation. You've got to keep yourself supplied with a stock of paleo appropriate food at all times. Give yourself time to learn what's on the diet and plenty of time to shop each week. Also, once you've learned to make some yummy paleo dishes, make enough for leftovers. For those of you that are busy-and that includes about everyone these days - it's a great time saver to just grab some leftovers and get on with your life.

If you're really having a tough time in cutting out the grains, don't be afraid to go the 'phase out' route. Gradually cutting out grains over a period of weeks is a great option to get used to the new diet and provides time to learn and experiment with new paleo friendly recipes. And hey, if you do fall off the wagon a bit, don't beat yourself up over it. In fact, a lot of people take cheat meals, days or even weekends on all kinds of diets and lifestyles. This was actually something I first learned from the dietitians I worked with at my first job in a hospital's nutritional services department. Since then I've come to see that a cheat day can be an important part of the balance in life and good for your soul.

One final issue in cutting out the grains from your diet-beer. Now this depends on what exact paleo practice your following, but according to my crossfit friends and many other paleo diet practitioners, beer is not paleo nor is gluten free beer. Personally, I don't care. I'm a lover of well made beer (in moderation) and I refuse to cut it out. But if you want to go full paleo, you've got to lose the beer. Fortunately, red and white wines are ok, as well as many hard alcohols. Just be careful with those mixers! Soda water is always a great mixer or you can just go hardcore and enjoy your alcohol straight. Just remember, moderation (the best diet would ideally contain no alcohol).

Remember, it takes about 30 days of consistently doing something to make it a habit. When starting on the paleo diet, give yourself time to adjust and keep up the consistency, especially when getting use to not consuming grains. You really can do just about anything you want if you put your mind to it.

This is the exciting part of the Paleo Diet - the Paleo Food List - the allowed foods are more than enough to make mealtimes exciting, nourishing and flavoursome. In general if you think back to the scrumptious meals that your grandmother produced the basics of those will be the basic of your new eating lifestyle!

Simply put the Paleo Food List contains all foods EXCEPT all grains and diary and all the relevant by-products.

MEATS: inclusive of organ meats i.e. kidney, liver, tongue, heart etc etc: beef, pork, lamb. rabbit, goat and game meats are allowed as long as the cut is lean with all fat trimmed off.

POULTRY: chicken, duckand game bird - skinless and fat free.

EGGS: chicken, duck, goose, seabirds and quail: The allowance for the week is 6 eggs. This should be more than adequate. Remember to include any egg mixed in a recipe eg like in a meatball or a coating.

SEAFOOD: all wild and commercial species available; whitefish, redfish, game fish etc; shellfish, lobster, crab, mussels etc etc

OILS: the most popular is olive oil however other oils such as avocado and nut oils are also acceptable and occasionally ghee can be used in place of oil.

It is to your advantage to source any local organic producers as very often directly purchased produce is often cheaper than in-store products. Watch out for farmers markets in town - very often the best place to buy from. Buy and eat seasonal available produce it is all part of a healthy lifestyle - the seasons and our nutritional needs are linked and after all who knows best - mother nature.

Below is an indication of fruits and vegetables allowed. These are not strictly the only ones you can use it is just an indication. You may of course have different varieties and these would be totally acceptable - as long as it is fruit or vegetable and not grain then you are safe

Note; LEGUMES are NOT part of the Paleo list not even sprouted legumes - it contains a toxin which is produced to protect the plant from being eaten by grazing animals (and humans) and even cooking does not reduce the saponin content.

There is some controversy over the use of root vegetables however try using the tops to the carrots and beet in place of the bulb. If you find it impossible to live without your root vegetables use them in moderation and if weight loss is sluggish - leave them out altogether. The Paleo list contains more than enough to feed your imagination, entice your creativity and nourish your body and soul.

Below you will find three wonderful recipes for rainbow trout. Trout are delicious, when cooked properly. These recipes turn out very well, and Rainbows cooked using any of them are delicious. Enjoy.

Rainbow Trout Recipes

Baked Rainbow Trout

2-3 trout

2 tablespoons chopped parsley

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1½ teaspoons seasoned salt

6 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion-thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic

1 large tomato, thinly sliced

4 teaspoons white wine

Spray 13x9 inch pan with liquid shortening. Arrange fish in pan and sprinkle with parsley, lemon juice and salt. Heat oil in small skillet: fry onion and garlic till limp. Pour over fish. Place tomato on fish and pour wine over fish. Bake 350 degrees 30-45 minutes. Serves 2-3.

Grilled Trout

6 small trout

Salt or seasoning for fish

Prepare trout: rub with oil and sprinkle with salt or seasoning. Place in fish basket if available or place on preheated grill rack and cook for about 15 minutes, turning as needed. Option: Rinse trout under cold water and stuff with lemon wedges and onions. Wrap in foil and cook on hot charcoal or gas grill for 6 minutes on each side. Do not overcook. Open foil and, with back of fish facing you, remove skin. There is a line
down the middle dividing the back meat and the belly meat. With fork,
Pull the back meat toward you and belly meat away from you and remove bone.
Squeeze on fresh lemon. Salt and pepper as needed.

Rainbow Trout with Artichoke Heart

6 Rainbow Trout fillets

1/2 cup butter

4 tbsp. green onion, chopped

2 tbsp. parsley, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp. lemon juice

8 oz. can of sliced mushrooms, drained

14 oz can artichoke hearts, sliced, and drained

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Pat rainbow trout fillets with a paper towel and place in flat baking dish. Melt butter in sauce pan and sauté the green onions, parsley and garlic until tender. Add lemon juice, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, salt and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until heated thoroughly. Pour sauce over the filets and bake in 325 degree F oven for about 18 minutes or until fish flakes with a fork. Serves 4.

Finger Jello Recipes

Finger Jello Recipe #1

3 3-oz. pkg. Jello

4 pkg. Knox unflavored gelatin

4 c. boiling water

Mix all ingredients together until dissolved. Pour into
13x9x2-in. baking dish and refrigerate. Cut into squares or use
cookie cutters to create shapes.

Finger Jello Recipe #2

3 3-oz. pkg. Jello

1 c. whipping cream

2 1/2 c. boiling water

Mix Jello and boiling water together until dissolved. Add
whipping cream and continue stirring. Pour into 8x8-in. pan and
chill well.

Finger Jello Recipe #3

1 c. sweetened condensed milk

1 3-oz. pkg. purple Jello

1 3-oz. pkg. orange Jello

1 3-oz. pkg. yellow Jello

1 3-oz. pkg. green Jello

1 3-oz. pkg. red Jello

7 pkg. Knox unflavored gelatin

To prepare filling, dissolve 2 envelopes of Knox gelatin in 1/2
cup cold water. Add 1 cup boiling water to sweetened condensed
milk. Add dissolved gelatin to milk and stir in 1 additional cup
of boiling water. Set aside.

To create layers, prepare one box of Jello at a time. Mix 1
envelope Knox gelatin with 1/4 cup cold water. Add 1 cup boiling
water and 1 box Jello. Pour Jello into greased 13x9x2-inch baking
pan. Refrigerate 15-20 minutes until set.

Pour 3/4 cup filling over set Jello. Chill 15-20 minutes.
Continue layering Jello and filling, ending with Jello on top.
Chill each layer 15-20 minutes before adding next layer.

Frankly, I love the things, and I really find, I don't know if it's just me, but every time I feel tired or I feel a cold coming on, juicing beets really helps me. Maybe it's a placebo thing. I don't care. I'm making an article especially for that special vegetable in my life.

Juicing Beets Recipes

So here of some stats of said vegetable;

Beets contain calcium, iron, sulphur, potassium, beta-carotene, choline, and vitamin C.
They are high in manganese, an important mineral for brain function.
Beets are also high in minerals that strengthen the liver and gall bladder, and are the building blocks for blood corpuscles and cells.
Beets are famous for their ability to cleanse the blood.

Beet juice is super concentrated so I'd strongly advise you dilute it with water or other juices.
Purchase firm, rock-hard beets. Being a root, they can be stored for months in the refrigerator.

Juicing beets recipes:

Carrot, spinach and beets

4 carrots

beet with greens

5 - 6 leaves of Romaine or other leaf lettuce

3 - 4 leaves of spinach

Scrub organic carrots or peel the carrots if they are not organic. Clean and cut beet into slender wedges, and wash & dry lettuce and spinach leaves. Juice half of the carrots, and the beet, and then you may use the remaining carrots to help push the lettuce and spinach through the juicer.

Power punch

Juice 1 small beet.

Juice 1 pear.

Juice 1 Fiji apple.

Juice a small piece of ginger 2 inches max.

Juice 2 inches of salsify root.

Juice 4 individual celery stalks.

Juice 10-12 carrots.

Juice 1 small parsnip.

Sweet beets

5 Carrots

1 Apple

1/2 Beet

What You Can Eat on the Paleo Diet - The Paleo Food List

You have taken the decision that the Paleo Diet is the way to go but are wondering what is actually on the Paleo Food List.

The Paleo Food list, to put it simply, is all foods that are natural, organic, wild and unprocessed BUT EXCLUDES all grain and dairy. Do not be shocked at this revelation as there is more than enough included and allowed foods that you will not even miss the bad habit of grain and dairy. The Paleo Food List 'allowed foods' are more than enough to make mealtimes exciting, satisfying and flavoursome. Bearing in mind that the use of spices and herbs is not limited in any way.

NB: LEGUMES are also NOT part of the Paleo list. The legumes as we know them are the seeds of the plant and a toxin is ingeniously produced in order to prevent grazing animal from eating them..Therefore even sprouted legumes contain the toxin (saponin) and cooking does not reduce or eradicate it.

MEATS: all meats (preferably wild/organic) are allowed as long as the cut is lean with all fat trimmed off inclusive of organ meats eg liver etc

POULTRY: chicken, duck and game bird - skinless.

EGGS: chicken, duck, goose, etc: 6 eggs a week is the limited remembering to count in any egg or eggs used in a recipe.

SEAFOOD: all species available; whitefish, redfish, game fish etc; shellfish, lobster, crab, mussels etc etc preferably of course wild.

OILS: the most popular is olive oil however other oils such as avocado and nut oils are also acceptable and some Paleo food lists advise ghee can be used.

The problem is however not convincing you to go on the diet its convincing your children and showing them the benefits that the diet will give them. This however is not as easy as it sounds, we as adults can understand the health benefits but as children its harder for them to understand any of those concepts, especially if they are used to a diet filled with sugary treats.

One advantage is that once you start consuming foods on the diet and start to experience the benefits of it, people in your family will start to notice and will be intrigued. This is often a good way to get the whole family to get on board the paleo train. Often leading by example can result in others trying and often enjoying the results they see in their own lives, and perhaps stay on board their whole lives.

I know how hard it is to change diets and your way of life, because I came from a family that was used to eating a diet full of oily, greasy foods. It took a lot, and I mean a lot of energy to pull away from that way of life and venture out on my own path and start making meals that were more natural and incline with our hunter gatherer ancestors.

I was used to a lot of oily quick easy to make meals at home, and often the family would bring home meals that were from fast food. We all know how dangerous these meals can be to our health. So I know that its can be very hard often impossible for some people to change their diet.

Now I don't think that you should be forcing your children to change their diets, especially if they are used to consuming foods that are full of bad ingredients or sugary. But instead from a young age implement a healthy way of life and explain to children how they can benefit and how good they feel when eating the right foods. This will naturally help the child to learn and motivate them to make better diet choices when consuming different foods.

Using forceful tactics such as banning your child from eating non paleo diet when outside of the house may result in the child rebelling against you and therefore be more inclined to choosing foods that are not good for them.
